Why Do You Want to Volunteer at Project Homeless Connect?

100 people sitting in a room, facing a projector screen, and still we decide to go around the room and introduce every person, one-by-one. A sigh and a passing thought of how much time this is going to take, until the comments people have are so riveting, the time flies and I want more. A Trip to WVC is “Well Worth the Time!”

Written By: Lacey Kara, WWU Service-Learning student

Volunteering: Beneficial to the Volunteer too?

Written by: Cherie, Whatcom Community College Student

I participated on October 24, 2009 in the national Make A Difference Day. I chose to volunteer my time with the Arthritis Foundation. This year, we folded 3,700 Jingle Bell Run t-shirts. Jingle Bell Run is an annual Bellingham event that supports research and funding for the Arthritis Foundation. I was actually really grateful to have this opportunity to serve the needs of my community. Read the rest of this entry »

Cold, Tired, Wet & Completely Happy

Written by Casey, Whatcom Community College Student

Make A Difference Day was a great experience for me. I was put out of my comfort zone and had no one I knew working with me, I also had to do hard work, weeding, shoveling, raking, and other basic landscaping.

After the yard work was finished, I felt so good about myself, I didn’t care that I was cold, tired, wet and sore, Read the rest of this entry »
