Many, many thanks to all the sponsors, participants, donors and volunteers that made this
year’s Human Race such a success. We had a beautiful day for the race and the music
provided by the Bellingham Youth Jazz Band was the perfect backdrop for the festivities that continued after the race was run.
The BP Cherry Point Refinery team broke a record for the most participants with 109 people participating this year. They also raised the most money - over $8,500. However, The ARC’s team “Racing for Rights” gave BP a run for their money this year with 72 participants raising over $5,000! On their heels was the youth team with the most participants, the Jazz Project team which raised over $4,900!
We are also very proud of Helen Lesiuk, who won “Participant to Raise the Most Money,” single-handedly bringing in over $1,300 for the Bellingham Senior Activity Center team!
While the primary focus of this event is to support local nonprofits with financial support, this is also a fun event that brings community members together. There was a family fair that provided face painting, games and prizes for our young participants. Members of the local American Massage Therapists Association provided well-earned massages and Haggen’s and Ciaò Thyme Catering helped us provide a delicious lunch.
We hope everyone that participated this year will be back with us again next year for our 14th Annual Human Race! In the meantime, donations are still accepted at the Whatcom Volunteer Center.
