About two weeks ago I volunteered with the Max Higbee Center for a “friendraiser” as they like to call them. I have had a growing interest in working with individuals with developmental disabilities, and this was a great opportunity. Initially I felt overwhelmed, not sure how to interact with the individuals, but it didn’t take me long to feel a bit more comfortable. The staff is wonderful with their clients. They knew how to handle situations, and they were always willing to give pointers if you weren’t sure what to do. Everyone there, staff and clients alike, seemed like they were having a great time and were all very happy to be there. The clients were friendly and asked if I would be helping out again. If I have the opportunity, I hope to volunteer again with the Max Higbee Center, and anyone looking to have a fun time, I would recommend checking them out.
