Whatcom County Parks and Recreation manages the Hovander Homestead in Ferndale, but they rely on the support of Whatcom Volunteer Center’s volunteers to staff the house for visitors during the summer months. If you are interested in the history of Whatcom County and the heritage of our community, this could be a fun and rewarding experience for you!
Volunteers will learn about sharing the history of Hovander House and the Hovander family, maintaining the security of the house and its contents, and how to assist visitors through the grounds. The house is open to the public weekends in May from 12:30 - 4:30 pm, and from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Thursdays - Sundays from 12:30 - 4:30 pm.
