National Volunteer Month

April 2017 – Come Celebrate with Us!

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), which  funds AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and a host of other national volunteer programs, has declared April, National Volunteer Month. The purpose is to celebrate volunteers and the impact of their dedicated service.

National Volunteer Week

April 23-29, 2017

National Volunteer Week, a program established by Points of Light in 1974, is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. It’s about demonstrating to the nation that by working together, we have the fortitude to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals.

National Volunteer Week is about taking action and encouraging individuals and their respective communities to be at the center of social change – discovering and actively demonstrating their collective power to make a difference.

In 2015 and 2016, through a partnership with The Bellingham Herald and The Volunteer Center, each day in April, a non-profit was given space in the newspaper to explain how they benefitted the community, and also space for their "Wish List".  In a survey of the non-profits profiled, many of them reported increased donations and an increase in volunteers.
The Volunteer Center plans an array of special activities that highlight our Partner Agencies.  Stay tuned for more information on this celebration of community service. Please Contact Us if you have any ideas or questions.
