Sue Ellen Heflin has been the Executive Director of the Whatcom Volunteer Center since September of 2004. She came to the WVC after more than 20 years in arts administration - 19 of them in Spokane. After ditching the corporate world in 1996, Caprice spent several years doing contract work in Antarctica and Alaska, allowing her the freedom to accomplish several tramps around the world. She finally landed in Bellingham with her husband, Chris, in 2003 and quickly found her niche at the Whatcom Volunteer Center. Caprice is passionate about food, cooking and entertaining and has actively volunteered for the Bellingham Farmer's Market. She served two years on the Market board as a way to learn more about local agriculture and to meet fellow food enthusiasts. Since giving birth to her son Liam in 2005, she has turned her attention to finding creative ways to convince him that vegetables are yummy.

Bringing lots of experience as an Administrative Assistant to her job--having worked in business, law and education--our Office Manager, Susan Porter, is happy to be in a job that has a lot of variety and where she can use her creativity. With a small staff, times can be hectic, but, she enjoys meeting the interesting people that come in our doors and living in such a beautiful place close to her daughter and two grandsons (the two loves of her life).

Megan Bedard
VISTA Volunteer |
Fresh out of Western Washington University, Megan is excited to start at the Volunteer Center as the outreach coordinator. Having spent most of her time in Bellingham on or around campus, she’s now looking forward to helping and engaging with the community that has made Bellingham feel like home. The youngest of five, Megan takes her cue from her older siblings, all of whom have been involved in nonprofits during the last several years. When she’s not working, Megan is developing plans for a cross-country bike ride, an endeavor she believes is both ridiculous and brilliant. |
