Wow! His eyes aren't the only ones tearing up.
I got to be an exit interviewer last year, and it is a very heart-warming thing to get to do. Every guest leaving commented that their favorite part of the event was the respect and caring the volunteers showed them.

This program is growing fast, and when I asked in January, they had already matched 22 mentor/tutors with students. At that point they had 42 total volunteers. They have a need for more mentors and you only have to commit to an hour a week to make a huge difference in the rest of a student's life!

I mentioned the shopper idea to other food banks I have visited, and the only response I got back was that it is too labor intensive. Sharon put a lot of energy into her service and leadership, and really got to know all her recipients. I hope they find a new director who is as dedicated!

Aww! I really like that story. It's heartening to hear the volunteer went out of his way to meet the guest the next day. What a great connection.

I greatly admire what you chose too do for the community. It's nice to know that some people in these younger generations are still willing to help others. Good job, and im sorry about your school.

Ha ha! Spoken like a true VISTA. My apartment as a VISTA had a huge room with wooden floors and no furniture. We used to call it the "yoga studio" to make ourselves feel better.
