December Newsletter
Thanks, It’s Been A Great Year So Far!
Wow, 2009 is rapidly drawing to a close.. Before it disappears, we wanted to share what a terrific year it’s been at the Whatcom Volunteer Center.
Thanks to the participation of our 4,449 enrolled volunteers, much vital work was accomplished in Whatcom County.
- A special welcome to the 1,128 new volunteers who enrolled with WVC – and we expect more before the year ends!
- So far this year, we’ve recorded more than 130,000 hours spent in service to the community by volunteers. We expect to more than double that by the time all the hours for 2009 are reported (if you’ve not been reporting your hours – please do so!) Reports of hours help the community to understand the scope of dedication by our community’s volunteers.
- Currently, 330 organizations partner with the WVC to help volunteers realize their goal of helping the community.
- We listed more than 586 volunteer opportunities over the course of this year – we have 217 currently listed.
For Make A Difference Day, we had nearly 800 volunteers participating for that one day of service
Project Warm Up volunteers created items for distribution to those in our community needing a bit of warmth for this winter – 3,300 items were distributed this year!
It is thanks to you and the other volunteers who work through the Whatcom Volunteer Center that Whatcom County continues to be the caring, engaged, and effective community it is. Thanks for doing your part!
We Need Updated Information From You
One of the benefits you are eligible to receive by being an enrolled volunteer at the Whatcom Volunteer Center is insurance coverage while driving to and from your volunteer assignment. In order for our insurance to be in force for your journey to and from your volunteer job, we need current driving information every year. Please fill out and return the 2010 Insurance Update form. Then, all you have to do is report your hours spent volunteering to us and your coverage will be up to date.
If you are 55+, are low-income, and wish transportation support, you will need to fill out both sides of the form and return it to us. This needs to be updated each year for our files. Remember to mark that you want transportation support and have your time sheet signed by your supervisor each month!
