The Human Race will have it’s fourteenth birthday in Whatcom County this June. Through these years, over a half-million dollars have been raised through the Human Race to support nonprofit agencies in our community. The beauty of the Human Race is that it you decide who gets the lions’ share of the donations you raise. Plus, you get to participate with hundreds of other people who believe in the work of nonprofits in our community.

The Human Race is the perfect opportunity for individuals who care, clients, volunteers, board members, and other group members to fundraise while participating in an activity that builds teamwork, leadership and awareness. This is the only event of its kind in Whatcom County — one that allows you to support the entire community while also bringing awareness to the cause you’re passionate about.

Whatcom Volunteer Center handles all the details for this event from race logistics to handling registration to providing lunch and entertainment. All you, your organization, or team needs to do is recruit participants to register for the race and gather donations on behalf of your favorite nonprofit. Whatcom Volunteer Center keeps just 25% of those donations to help us continue to link volunteers with community needs. Your favorite nonprofit (you can even pick WVC if you want!) gets 75% of the donations to help them continue the good work they are doing. It’s a winning combination for everyone.

Establishing an agency goal, developing a team theme and encouraging members to involve their neighbors, friends and family can produce a substantial return for your favorite nonprofit group. Whatcom Volunteer Center is happy to help you brainstorm ideas to motivate your team. This year, we hope to beat our all-time, overall high of $75,000 in donations.

An important part of all this business of fundraising is “FUN!” This event boasts prizes for a wide variety of categories – everything from best dressed pet to best decorated stroller. The 5K course is flat, wheelchair and stroller accessible and scenic. When participants have completed the course, they are treated to a light lunch, music provided by the Jazz Project, and a family fair with activities to entertain little ones.

Go ahead and register now! Registration, up until 5pm on June 10th, is only $15 and includes lunch (after that date, registration will be $20). Forms are available to download at our website www.whatcomvolunteer.org or you can register on-line through www.active.com (please note a $3.00 service fee applies to on-line registration.) After you and your team are registered, keep the donation form to continue collecting pledges right up until race day.
